Church History

Friendship Primitive Baptist Church was established by Elder Charlie H. Hearren and organized by Elder G.V. Thurman in 1914 and has proudly served the community for 102 years. In 1926 the church was damaged and subsequently rebuilt under the leadership of Elder M. Mickens and a few years later, Elder H.G  Turner became the pastor. Under his leadership, there were 3 deacons ordained for service along with 3 dedicated trustees. In 2001, Elder McMillian was called to pastor this great church and served faithfully for 13 years.

During much of this time, the pillars of this spirit filled church were Mother E. Anderson, Mother L. Collins, Mother L. Gooding, Sister D. Flowers, Sister D. Miller, Sister A. Dixon, and Sister C. Grant. They haven’t only served faithfully, but have given uselfishly of their time and talents, for the up building of God’s church “Friendship Primitive Baptist”.

On December 7, 2014, Elder Inous Ellis, Jr., was called to lead this flock of baptized believers. In which he was officially ordained by Moderator Charles Hendley at Greater Mt. Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church, who delivered the installation service. Sister Jewel Ellis, his loving and devoted wife, his loving family and friends were in attendance to witness the glorious occasion.

God is continually, anointing the vision of Elder Ellis and the church family and under his leadership, the church has been remodeled, which consist of painting the church walls, remodeling the ceiling, putting in new toilets in both restrooms, putting new carpet in the church, rewiring the church and remodeling the pulpit. Under Elder Ellis continued leadership and his humble spirit of preaching Gods word, 17 souls have come to christ. The church has begun a Children Sunday School and Children Choir. We also have and Usher Board and Pastor Aide Committee.

Friendship Primitive would like to recognize Dr. Shirley Ann Gibson and Dr. Diane Gibson for the seed sown to cover the new windows of the church.

The church is proud of the past, but must continue to turn their attention on God, to direct our future. He has allowed the church to “step out on Faith” for many years.
